Margaret was born May 6, 1938, in Seward, Oklahoma, to Willie Carl and Ellen May (Crosley) Roberts, both deceased. She grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma where she attended and graduated from Edmond High School in 1956. After graduation, she attended and graduated from The University of Central Oklahoma.
Margaret met Tom, her husband of 62 years, in Oklahoma City in 1958 in the office building where they both worked. They married and moved to Houston in 1959 and were blessed with a daughter, Lesley, their only child, in June of 1963.
Margaret began her teaching career at Spring Branch ISD in the fall of 1971, where she taught high school journalism, yearbook and newspaper at Spring Branch High School. Following, she opened Stratford High School as their first journalism teacher. She was dedicated to teaching, leading, and developing students in the field of journalism. She entered her students’ work in contests, coached them for the Academic Decathlon and traveled with them to seminars across the country. During this time, she also attended The University of Houston to further her education in the field of Public-School Administration. She used her Administrative Credentials to move into service as an administrator in Public Relations at Spring Branch ISD’s Central Office. Following her time in Spring Branch ISD, Margaret taught high school journalism and yearbook and junior high English in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Margaret retired from her career in education in 2008.
Margaret had many interests including serving as a volunteer at The Houston Museum of Natural History, active participation and board member in the Houston Genealogical Forum with Tom and conducting genealogical research. In January 2018, Margaret and Tom moved to Arlington to be near their daughter, Lesley. Active participation in their Arlington book club was something that Margaret and Lesley enjoyed together.
