Martha & my mother were sisters (“Pete” aka Johnnie Mae & Jimmie Iva). They would tell us lots of family stories, among them, tales of our American Indian Heritage. They taught us pride in our family & ancestors. They only had, hand me down family tales, to go by. But today, with the internet age, we have access to historic records & DNA. While doing one of my favorite pastimes, I found the truth. Sadly, I do not have Indian DNA, but Martha does, thru her paternal line. Martha is related to the Powhatan Chiefs of Virginia. There are many chiefs by name on Martha’s tree. (SHOOK - PERSON). It’s an interesting fact that, POCAHONTAS’ father was the ruler of the POWHATAN TRIBAL NATION. Could they be related? The answer is only in our imagination. Sweet Dreams Miss Martha.

I would like to add a picture that Momma (Sandra) sent to me. I hope she finds more & older ones from when we were little...But in the meantime, I know everyone will enjoy seeing this one.
Martha was such a beautiful, beautiful woman and so very, very smart!! She always impressed me, in every way, with her brilliant mind, beautiful face and incredible body! She and Momma were always the most vivacious and beautiful
women in the town! Lookout! When they walked in a room, you could feel the electricity in the air!
We have more photos! I will post online for everyone to see. If you would like to view them, email me and I will send the link. laycelefevre@gmail.com

Martha was like a second mother to me. She always loved unconditionally and protected and cared for me as if I was her own. One of my fondest memories are of her and my mother Sandra; we were all very very young and with Martha's children (Aubrey) Buddy Lori and Steven along with my sister Lisa and my brother Lance. (our little sister Lana wasn't born yet). We were at Martha's House and she let us play with the small record player. We put on Elvis Presley's Hard-Headed Woman. We begain to dance and act fools jumping around. Momma and Martha came in and danced with us. It was a happy time and they were so young and full it's life. We were all a big family. As time went on our families stayed close throughout the years. There was never a Christmas without Martha.. and then Marcus joined us.
We had many changes in our lives but Martha was always there thru think thick and thin. We were all so happy and had good times. She bought me my first hot rollers and pierced earrings in real gold. I remember swimming at their house was a treat. I remember when Steven past, how we were rushed to her side school in her grief she still shined like a beautiful diamond. I remember telling Martha that my son was on the way ...that I was to have a baby. She was very sweet & supportive ,offered good advice and I knew how much she loved me. She was always my friend no matter what... I'll miss her terribly. I love you Martha. I know that you're with those who love you in heaven. God bless you .
Laurie, Buddy and Marcus: I know this time is hard for you and just know, we'll all get through it somehow with each other's help. She's watching and living is all still.
I love you Martha. I'll miss you. I can't wait to see you again one day.
Your a real angel now! ...something like you were here on earth but better!

FAVORITE MEMORIES OF MARTHA @ 2115 PROCTER AVE, WACO, TEXAS, HER CHILDHOOD HOME. I’m Martha’s cousin, Marilou Texas. It was a 3 day train trip from Palo Alto to Waco. My mother & I made the trip many summers. Our mother’s were, SHOOK SISTERS, Pete & Jimmie. They taught us love of family & gave us strong bonds. MEMORIES of MARTHA (1) In the evenings of fans & swamp coolers, sitting in Pete’s kitchen eating vanilla ice cream. Martha & her Daddy (Judge Morris) telling humorous tales with theatrical dash. (2) Our Mothers driving us to the Farm Trucks, buying 10 cent watermelons, all colors & smashing them on the warm ground to eat the sweet hearts. (3) Walking to the corner store, a shed like cabin, to buy REAL Dr Pepper with cane sugar. (4) Lying on cool dichondra lawn, smelling night blooming jasmine, & stargazing into Martha’s BIG TEXAS SKY. (5) When the summer thunder & lightning came, we went to bed early, pulled a sheet over our heads & told ghost stories. (6) Going on walks with our young, happy & beautiful mothers. In the morning, to the Baylor Bear Habitat, Martha would talk to the bears & of course, they would listen. In the evening to Jessie’s or Signe’s (our mother’s friends, fellow RNs, former Suffragettes & totally modern women), we would sit in theIr gardens & talk for hours. (7) Watching Martha & Betty (my sister) play pranks on a very serious Thomas Aubrey (Martha’s brother). He would act surprised, they would give a big belly laugh & roll on the ground. (8) Martha sitting on a piano, in the Baylor student lounge, singing a sultry HONKY TONK WOMAN. & I said, “MOTHER, I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE MARTHA.”

First I would like to give my condolences to the family. I met Martha(Meme) through her step granddaughter Diedre Long (Deedee). Martha was the greatest woman I have ever met. She had a great big heart for all people. When she meets you she would open her loving arms to everyone she would meet and give you a hug when you left. I do not have any parents or grandparents anymore. Martha and Marcus (Big daddy) welcomed me and my son as part of their family . She loved her family with all her heart. Her family was her priority. Martha has touched alot of hearts. She will be missed but never be forgotten. RIP Martha, fly high with the Angels. For I know you will be one of our Angels who will be looking over us. In the time I have known you, you have taught me what loving and forgiving was all about in life. Thank you for being a big part of our lives. When I had my gastric sleeve surgery you was my biggest fan through my journey you cheered me on and every time you saw me you would tell me how lovely I looked. Thank you for everything. Thank you for loving my son Nathan Smith like he was one of your grandkids. You will never be forgotten. We will meet again in Heaven. To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. Each and everyone of you are in our prayers.
