Mary Jean, age 83, died peacefully in her sleep on November 25th. She was the oldest child of six born to William Ross Brian and Wanda Elizabeth Buzbee in Smackover, Arkansas. She spent her formative years in Arkansas, where she attended Little Rock Central High School during the historic 1957 integration crisis, witnessing a pivotal chapter in our nation’s history, an experience that left a lasting impression on her life and values. Those years shaped her strength, resilience, and lifelong commitment to education and service.
Mary Jean pursued higher education with determination and earned her master’s degree while working as a dietician at University of North Texas. She was a lifelong educator, teaching high school home economics and decades of early childhood education. Teaching was not just her profession but a calling, and she carried her compassion and dedication into every classroom she entered.
Mary Jean was a master seamstress with remarkable creativity and skill. She could sew nearly anything imaginable and approached every project with patience, precision, and pride. Craft-savvy and endlessly resourceful, she shared her talents generously, creating beautiful, meaningful pieces for family and friends. She was also an excellent baker and loved sharing her skill with family. Her creativity was not only a gift but an expression of the care and love she poured into everything she did.
In every way, Mary Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was the center of her life. Alongside Lynn, she built a life grounded in commitment, community involvement, and service wherever they lived.
Mary Jean shared in a lifetime of adventures with her husband and family, cherishing time spent together and creating memories that will be carried forward for generations. Her quiet strength, intelligence, kindness, and unwavering support of those she loved will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Wanda Brian; her brothers, Dr. Tom Brian and Jimmy Brian; and her husband of 62 years, Lynn D. Easley.
Mary Jean is survived by her daughter Cathy (Harold); sons, Jeff and Brad (Stacy); grandchildren Michael (Noemi), Luke (Debbie), Nicholas, Nicole (Brandon), Sterling, and Max; and great-grandchildren Mathias and Aurora. She is also survived by her sister Ann (Harry); brothers Dr. David (Linda) and Bobby (Denise), and dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
