

Mary Elizabeth (Peoples) Lewin passed away on June 17, 2015, her husband, Gunter M. Lewin, having predeceased her on May 1, 2015. She is survived by her son Brian D. Lewin and his partner Mark M. Mueller (Dallas, TX), her daughter Gayle E. Cantaffa (Howell, NJ), her daughter-in-law Anne C. Lewin (Lawrenceville, NJ), and grandchildren Dave B. Lewin, Jason R. Lewin and Kaylah E. Cantaffa.
She was born in Aliquippa PA on August 20, 1926. Her family moved to several towns in Pennsylvania, yet she called Pittsburgh her home. She graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA with a degree in Business Administration and Secretarial Science. While at Westminster, she was active in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After college, she worked for several companies including Franki Foundations Belgium that eventually brought her to New York City. While living in an apartment on Joralemon Street, in Brooklyn Heights, she was introduced to Gunter by a mutual friend. They were married on April 13, 1957 in Swarthmore, PA. They lived in Claymont, DE for a few years before moving to East Brunswick, NJ in 1963 where she resided for 46 years. She was active in the PTA, League of Women’s Voters, the East Brunswick Women’s Club, several bridge groups, a neighborhood gourmet club and an arts & crafts group. After Gunter’s retirement, they travelled extensively including the Northwest U.S. and the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, Europe, Russia, Bermuda, Mexico, and many Caribbean islands. Her favorite destination was Majorca located in the Mediterranean Sea. After a few years living in Freehold, NJ, she eventually moved to Dallas, TX.
Mary Elizabeth was a kind, intelligent and very proper woman. She was extremely organized and always punctual. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and home. Mary Elizabeth was a consummate story-teller and very often regaled friends and family of tales from her childhood, work and home-life and many travels abroad. She loved all of her friends.
