

Eleanor was a quiet reserved person who spent her early adulthood living through the Great Depression. She moved to Columbus, Ohio in the thirties and worked in a doctor’s office after attending business and nursing schools. She eventually met her husband, Raymond T. Lyons, and they married in 1940. They moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where Ray started his career with General Electric.
After Rays service in the Navy during World War II, they continued to live in Connecticut until Ray was transferred to Houston in 1949. Ray and Eleanor lived in Oak Forest from 1955 until Ray passed in 2008, after 68 years of marriage. They enjoyed their life in Oak Forest with their children, Nancy and Larry, and then later on their own as retirees.
They had a very close relationship with grandchildren, Kathleen and Kevin and made countless trips to Arlington to visit them. Then Eleanor moved to Arlington in 2009. In the past few years Eleanor enjoyed being with her great grandchildren, Wyatt and Hank, too.
Eleanor was a devoted member of Saint Matthews United Methodist Church for over Fifty years.
Throughout her life, Eleanor played the piano, and music was a large part of her life. She also was a great seamstress. Sewing was a main hobby along with cooking and baking. Eleanor’s family and her faith were most important to her.
Eleanor Lyons was a kind and gentle soul, who had a deep faith and quiet strength. She was always agreeable and encouraging; she was thoughtful and liked to help others. Even up to the end, she would as her caregivers if she could do anything to help them. Eleanor was always polite and appreciative of others helping her. She was a non-judgmental person who was understanding and patient; she never complained and always had a positive attitude. Eleanor was a mostly quiet sort of person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything. She seldom lost her temper and always remained calm; she liked peace and harmony and was a peacekeeper. She loved to laugh and smile, but was quiet and reserved about it. Eleanor had a very likable, sweet quality that everyone she met admired.
