Orace Leon Edwards of Arlington, Texas, passed away July 4, 2024, at the age of 93. Orace was born in Fouke, Arkansas on March 2, 1931. He later moved to Texarkana, Arkansas where he lived until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He was not sent to boot camp but was sent on a ship headed to Korea. His training was on aboard a ship.
Orace was wounded when the truck he was in was blown up. He rolled down an incline and into icy Chosin River. He got frostbite and in later years lost feeling in his lower extremities and fingers. He was a Purple Heart recipient and a member of the Chosin Few. They were also called the Frozen Chosin. He was a proud Marine.
Orace was active in his church throughout the years and was a member of the Harbinger Singers Gospel Group.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, of 70 years and 3 of his 4 children; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Orace was the second of of nine children. He is survived by brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Cecil, Racine and Sue.
He will be missed.
A service for Orace will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. Following the service will be a committal service at 2:15 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
