I met Pete over 30 years ago. His personality was pretty rough but somehow I could see through the rough at a compassionate man.
I was right. He really was a softy. As I learned over the next 30 plus years.
He was a great sportsman and invited me on several trips on witch we always had a great time.
The times he and I would discuss business when we were alone. I discovered how much all of his employees meant to him.
He honestly loved his employees.
He also loved his family.
Pete until we meet again. And my condolences to Susan, and the rest of the family.
Rest In Peace Pete.

I have known Pete for over 25 years years not only one of his bankers that is also a good friend. I have many wonderful and interesting memories of long conversations with Pete about life, hunting, and a tremendous business that he owned. Beneath that gruff exterior was a heart of gold who cared deeply about those who were close to him. Prayers for Susan and the children and grandchildren. May he rest in peace.

Pete you were the best friend I ever had and in the 34 years we knew each other we worked many jobs together as well as hunting and just hanging out and talking. I don't think I could’ve had as many good times with anyone else . Thank you for being the unique person you were , you were taken from us much to soon . I will always remember you with great fondness. Until we meet again

Pete was a true entrepreneur in every sense of the word. He and Susan built Hawk Steel from nothing into the large, multi-faceted, and hugely successful scrap yard it is today. Along the way he touched so many lives. I will never forget the first time I met Pete when he literally burst into our lovely trailer house office at Erath Recycling in Stephenville to just check out the competition. From that time on we were friends, sometimes competitors, sometimes customers back and forth, but always friends. From parties at the Diamond C Ranch, to weekends at the deer lease, dinners at Del Frisco's, ISRI conventions, and all the good times at Smith Farms, we had a ball!We will miss you so much Pete, but somehow, we know you are shaking it up in Heaven, just like you did here. Thanks for all the wonderful times and memories, and never goodbye, but till we meet again. With our deepest condolences, and all our love to Susan and the family. Susan and Ronnie Smith

I was 21 and drove for Pete in 1985 when Hawk Steel was on Goodnight Ln. in Dallas. Him and Susan gave me the opportunity to drive an 18 wheeler for the first time in my life with zero experience after Texas somehow converted my chauffeur license into a class A instead of a class B box truck. What a great guy he was with class and a style of his own. There are lots of memories he has left with all of us. My condolences to Susan and family.

I first met Pete when Jimmy married my daughter, Angela, 30 years ago. I had no idea the blessing he would be to me and to this family. He took Jim into the business, then did the same for Hunter when he graduated college. He stepped up to the plate and took Hunter and Drake under his wing, especially after their Papa Ed was gone. Papa Pete was all there was in their eyes. I so appreciate all he has done for them and me, too. I moved to Ft. Worth following Ed's death. Pete and Susan were always generous to include me in family gatherings. I've certainly felt a part of this generous family. I can't find a way to say goodbye to Papa Pete - just see you again one day! My deepest sympathy to the family and his many friends. Love & blessings, Sue Clover
