

Phyliss Yvonne Sorem, age 94 of Arlington, passed away on December 16, 2020. She was born on July 26, 1926, in Brainerd, Minnesota, the daughter of Raymond L. McCormick and Genevieve Cater McCormick. Phyliss was married to Vernon Sorem and they celebrated 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.
Phyliss grew up in St. Cloud and McGregor, Minnesota. She was raised by her grandparents and uncle. After high school, she attended the University of Minnesota for Mortuary Science and was one of 3 women in her class. She married Vernon Sorem in 1957 and moved to Jackson, Minnesota where she was a homemaker and raised her four children. Phyliss enjoyed reading, studying the bible, camping, and coffee with friends. She was active in Our Saviors Lutheran Church women's circle and a supporter of the Navajo missions. Phyliss and Vern moved to Texas in 1983. Phyliss was an avid sewer, quilter, and seamstress. She created many beautiful pieces for family, friends, and even tapestries for her church. She loved being a part of her children and grandchildren's lives. She was a fierce prayer warrior for all. Christmas was her favorite holiday and the family will always remember her unique white elephant gifts.
Phyliss is survived by her daughter Linda Molstad and husband Ron, son-in-law Alex Shaw, son Dayton Sorem and wife Connie, son Brook Sorem and wife Brenda; five grandchildren Stefanine Bell and husband Steve, Amanda Batsche and husband Jeremy, Clayton Sorem and wife Katie, Garrett Sorem, and Austin Sorem; three great-grandchildren and one expected February 2021 Samuel, William, and Harvey Batsche, and baby Sorem. Phyliss was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Stuart Bradley, brother Herb McCormick, sister Marilyn Lindenfield, granddaughter Carol Ann Molstad, her husband Vernon, and daughter Gwynn Shaw.
