It really hurt me to hear of Ross' passing. While Ross wasn't my blood family, I did think of him as family. I couldn't have wished for a better neighbor or friend. He will truly be missed and I'll miss our talks and making something to take over for him to eat. I know Sammie will miss him dearly and life will be a little darker without Ross. I know he will be missed and while I will miss my neighbor, I will miss my friend even more.

The loss of those we love is something we never want to encounter. When my phone rang around 10 p.m. on March 25th, my heart sank. I knew instantly that the news was not going to be what I wanted to hear. "We lost Pa", were the words on the other end of the line. This couldn't be; I just knew "Mr. Porter", "Pa", "Ross", "Spanky", would pull through as he had done so many times before.
God knew Spanky was getting tired and had fought a long hard battle; it was time to take him home for a rest. Family and friends are going to miss Spanky terribly, but have hope to see him again someday.
"Thank You Spanky", for always making me feel welcome in the Porter family. You were a terrific father-in-law, and I was blessed to have you in my life. I will miss talking with you on the phone and visiting with you when I travel through Powderly.

I have so many good memories with Paw, I can honestly say I don’t have any bad memories of him.
As everyone knows Paws favorite place in the world was at the lake with Nanny and anyone else that wanted to come and that’s where some of my most favorite memories with Paw were.
One I will never forget was one day we were headed to the lake with the camper, Nanny was already there, and just as we got on the long dirt road going to the camp Paw stopped and got out, come around to the passenger side and slide me over to the driver seat and said drive ....
I was so nervous but Paw wasn’t so I took off.
When l pulled in the gate at the camp I thought Nanny was going to have a heart attack and Paw was just laughing.
I Was 9 Years old and had never driven anything other than a tractor before that day !!!!
Paw has always been a man to look up to , he has been and always will be my Hero !!!!
I Love You and Will Miss You So Much

I sure am going to miss that fellow. Did not get to see him much lately, but the phone calls are precious memories. I believe I will see him again through our love in Jesus Christ. Melinda and I will truly miss you Spanky.
