Roy Allen Newkirk was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and coworker. The man, the myth, the legend, was a blessing to be around. He sadly departed on May 17, 2018. For those who knew him as “Tiny”, knew that he meant the world to those he loved. Roy was an individual who could bring you to tears with some fantastic stories; and sometimes those stories were as tall as he was.
Roy was one of the few men known to be a loving, gentle giant and yet one of the most over-protective parents ever. Roy coached his sons in football, baseball, and soccer and always supported his boys with everything he had. Roy was incredibly dependable and always the first person you could call because he always put his family first. To say that he will be missed is such an understatement; and anyone who knew him will always have a story to share.
Roy was the only child of Walter “Shorty” and Evelyn Newkirk. He was born in 1955 in Plainview, TX. He married his college sweetheart 1981 at Hill Chapel. He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Don (Megan) and Chance (Audrey) and grandsons Wyatt and Eli.
We will be celebrating his life and legacy Monday May 21st at 1:00pm at the Moore Bowen Funeral Home (4216 South Bowen Arlington, TX 76016). In lieu of flowers the family has requested any support be shown to the Humane Society or The Opportunity Plan Incorporated at PO Box 1035 Canyon, TX 79015 in memory of Roy Newkirk.
