The Mason family welcomes you to remember the life of beloved wife, mother and grandmother Sheila Mason. Sheila was born on 17 December 1942 to John and Margaret Lawson in Southport, England where she spent her youth working with her brother David in their mother’s corner store and competing in beauty contests.
Sheila graduated from the Southport High School for Girls and gained her Science Laboratory Technician Certification at the Department of Technology, City and Guilds of London Institute.
She met her loving husband Victor at Pilkington R&D where they both worked. She contributed to the development of windshields for supersonic aircraft. One of her fondest memories was seeing the Beatles perform at the Cavern Club in Liverpool before they became famous.
Sheila and Vic were blessed with three children in their 50 years of marriage. Michael was born in 1973, Peter in 1976, and Linda in 1980; all were born in Bolton, England.
Always adventurous, Sheila loved to travel. In 1977, she and Victor drove 11,000 miles touring in Canada and the USA in just 27 days. Until recently, she visited the family cottage in Canada at least twice a year; each visit was a 4,000 mile round trip drive. Also, she would visit relatives in the UK each year.
She was the best cook in the world!!
The family moved to Deep River, Ontario, Canada in the 1980’s where Sheila was instrumental in developing the world’s first personal radiation detector at Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories and BTI. When she wasn’t working, Sheila loved to compete in badminton tournaments and taking her beloved children cross country skiing. In the 1990’s, the family moved to Arlington, Texas where Sheila worked as a Laboratory Technician for LensCrafters until her retirement. In retirement, she always looked forward to vacations at Daytona and Pensacola Beaches in Florida.
We lost Sheila on 5 December 2022, but we are not sad for her. She had suffered over the last few years with a declining memory and deteriorating health, and was ready for her next adventure after this life. Sheila is survived by her husband Victor, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Jennifer and their daughter Brittany, son and daughter-in-law Peter and Rachel, daughter/best friend Linda and her fur baby, Sooty.
Sheila taught our family to love and kept us together. She instilled us all with wisdom, compassion and empathy. She loved teaching us the old English traditions and helping us create new ones, which we carry on to this day. Sheila was beautiful inside and out, was loved by everyone, always thought positively and always found a way to make us smile in the difficult times. We thank you for being the greatest wife and mother we could have ever asked for.
Mom, we will always love and miss you!
