Susan Swanson, a strong-willed and spirited woman, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 76. Susan was a devoted wife of 49 years, a loving mother, sister, and friend whose incredible wit and unyielding spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Born in San Diego on March 26, 1948, Susan grew up as the oldest of seven siblings and played a significant role in raising her family. She was known for her sharp wit, her ability to speak her mind, and her deep commitment to her loved ones. Her strength of character was evident in everything she did, from raising her beloved daughter to standing by her family through thick and thin.
Susan’s greatest joy came from the moments she spent with her family. Whether cross-country skiing, gathering for weekly Friday family meals filled with laughter and lively conversation, or simply enjoying card games with those she loved, Susan cherished these times and created lasting memories that will be treasured by all who knew her. She embraced new hobbies with enthusiasm, sharing these interests with her devoted husband, Eric. From stained glass and needlepoint to the Ham Radio Club, Susan and Eric built a rich life full of laughter and love, exploring the world and enjoying new challenges and adventures. Susan also loved dancing the night away, especially if her day included relaxing on the beach with a piña colada.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eric Swanson, with whom she shared a deep and abiding love; her beloved daughter, Erica Tyler, who was the light of her life; and her siblings, Buddy Villars, Bill Villars, Laura Dawson, Mary Reeder, Julie Levins, and Joe Villars. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she in theirs.
Susan’s legacy is one of strength, love, and resilience. She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her warm heart, and the way she lived her life on her own terms. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, 6 pm to 8 pm, at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. A service will follow on Friday at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at noon at Moore Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Susan’s memory to Camp El Tesoro de la Vida Children’s Grief Camp. https://www.campfirefw.org/camps/grief-camp/
Susan Swanson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit and her love will continue to inspire us all.
