Teri Jo Bohmert was born on August 22, 1961 at St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN to Jack and Bonnie Bohmert. Twelve minutes later, twin sister Tami Jo arrived. Big sister Lonnie, four years old at the time, was thrilled to have not only one, but TWO baby sisters. They were identical twins.
The family lived in WIllernie, Minnesota and the girls grew up going to Mahtomedi Public Schools. Jack and Bonnie divorced in 1965 and the sisters continued to live in WIllernie with Bonnie. In 1974 Bonnie was remarried to Joe Gunderson and at that time the family moved to Stillwater, Minnesota. Teri and Tami graduated from Stillwater High School in 1979. The girls’ faith journey began at Bellaire Baptist Church in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
Teri moved to Texas in 1983 when her first husband, Bruce Ayers, was transferred to Texas for his job. Before leaving for Texas, Teri and Tami celebrated their 22nd Golden Birthday. As inseparable as they were, Tami soon followed her twin to Texas.
Teri and Bruce divorced in the late eighties.
After that Teri met the love of her life and soulmate Ron Nix at a bowling alley where she worked. He was a star bowler, a wonderful man, and Teri and Ron quickly fell head over heels in love. They dated for many years and finally tied the knot on June 16, 2001. Teri worked for awhile with Ron at a convenience store that he managed, but decided to retire shortly after they got married.
Ron was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2013. Teri and Tami had been devoted caregivers for Ron throughout his illness. Needless to say, Teri was lost without her dear husband and soulmate.
Teri absolutely loved living in Texas, though and never returned to the cold Minnesota weather after moving here in 1983. She would often call and ask me what the weather was like in Minnesota (and usually she would call on really cold days). :)
Then she would rub it in by saying, “Well, it’s 87 here - feels like 95.”
Teri was a huge Cowboys fan. Maybe not so much the football part of it, but collecting the apparel and memorabilia. Her house and yard are adorned with everything Cowboys.
Being twins, Teri and Tami were inseparable. They did many fun things together- camping, going to Texas Motor Speedway races, Bike Night, concerts when they won tickets from the local radio station KZPS.
They travelled together - on cruises, trips to Galveston and Memphis, and they made regular visits to Minnesota to visit family and friends there.
In 2019 tragedy struck again when Teri’s twin sister Tami passed away. Part of Teri died on that February day, when she lost her twin sister and ‘other half’ Tami. Teri struggled for the last 2 1/2 years to continuing to live without her twin, and was doing really until recently.
This was a tough year for Teri. In January she underwent her third knee surgery. She never really got back on her feet completely after that. She had three serious falls over the summer, and injured her spine during the last fall.
Between the falls, and her failing organs, her body had had enough and she left this world peacefully early Tuesday morning, September 28th.
It brings me comfort knowing that Teri and Tami are together again, never to be separated from each other, or from the love of Christ, ever again. They are now free from all of the limitations and struggles that they endured here in their earthly lives.
May you Rest In Peace my dear sisters.
I love you Teri and Tami.
Your big sister, Lonnie
