Due to COVID, the family will be having a celebration of life at a date in the future to be determined.
Tom, as he was known by most, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 16, 1943, to Marion Sadlier Winters and Thomas D. Winters. Tom attended Ponca Military Academy in Ponca City, Oklahoma and then studied at Texas Tech. He graduated from UTA with a degree in Electrical Engineering where he worked many years in the aerospace industry. Tom produced numerous patents while working at Bell Helicopter, Vought Aircraft Industries and Northrop Grumman Corporation. He married Shirley Ann Smith in 1964 in Lubbock, Texas. He retired from Vought Aircraft in 2008 and continued working with DDB Unlimited, a company started by a long-time friend Dusty Mahorney and his family. Up to the time of his passing, he was still working with DDB as an Engineer. Tom was a HAM operator (k5mvw) for 64 years, getting his license at the age of 13 in 1957. Tom always looked forward to HAM-Com and ARRL Field Day every year. For the last 4 years, he enjoyed being a Pop-Pop, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas D. Winters and Marion Sadleir Winters and his brother, Charles B. Winters. He is survived by his ex-wife, Shirley Ann Burris of Euless, Texas; two children, Tamarah Winters-Schirm (Rick Schirm) and Sean A. Winters; six grandchildren, Victor Winters, Omar Winters, Cassie Schirm, Bailey Winters, Cole Schirm and Emma Winters.
