Van was born in a small village of the North Vietnam to Chu and Nhung Doan on December 2nd, 1939. She moved to South Vietnam in 1953, married to her wonderful husband four years later, and spent over six decades together. She and her husband have four sons and three daughters now all residing in the US. As many other Vietnamese women, Van dedicated her life for family. She supported her husband during his imprisonment in the Re-education camp by the communist while took care of her seven young children. In her 50s, she and her family immigrated to America, her new country. Despite culture shock and language barriers, she continued working until she retired in her sixty. Van then spent wonderful two decades with all her loved ones until she suffered dementia in her last few years.
Although she did not have an opportunity to finish elementary school, Van valued the importance of education and pushed all her children to complete college. She was generous and helpful to everyone. She enjoyed knitting, walking, gardening, travelling to visit families and friends, and cooking various Vietnamese dishes for her big extended family. She always was in a good spirit even in her late years when her illness turned worse. She never complained about her pain or her troublesome and did not want her children worry about her. She will always be remembered by everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband, Dao Nguyen, daughter Huong and her husband, son Tung and his wife, daughter Hanh and her husband, son Bach and his wife, daughter Hang and her husband, son Chi and his wife, son Thanh and his wife, ten grandchildren, her younger brothers Cau and his wife, Ngoc and his wife, Hai and his wife, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, 6/30/22 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Friday, 7/1/22 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016.
A funeral mass will occur Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 8:30 am at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church, 801 E. Mayfield Rd, Arlington, TX 76014. A graveside service will occur Saturday, July 2, 2022 after Funeral Mass at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
