Adelheid Manousakis

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother aunt and friend, Adelheid (Heidi) was born in Schwanheim, Frankfurt am Main, Germany on November January 18, 1923 at home. She was the second and youngest child of the late Franz Philipp Seib and Dorothea Ruger. Seib. Franz was a soap maker and owned and operated a successful business that served the Schwanheim and Frankfurt community. She departed at home on July 1, 2026.

As a child and young woman, Heidi enjoyed riding her bicycle, reading books, gardening, studying math and science, and helping her parents. She loved working with numbers and helped her father as a book keeper and mother in the garden.

Upon graduating from high school in 1941, Heidi went to secretarial school where she graduated at the top of her class a year early. She started working at an engineering company during WWII. She was so proficient at typing and taking dictation that she was recognized by her peers and often requested by the company executives. During the war (Heidi called the “Hitler time”) it was customary to greet one with the Sieg Heil (Hitler Salute) in the office. Heidi and her parents were staunch advocates for peace and were adamantly against the war and Hitler. She was reprimanded for not saluting back but because of her superior secretarial skills, she was never in serious trouble.

After the war, in the fall of 1947, Heidi met the love of her life, George Michael Manousakis who was a U.S. Army Sergeant stationed in Frankfurt. They married in July 1948 and remained married for 70 years until George passed in 2018. George brought Heidi to the United States later in 1948. In 1955 George and Heidi adopted Heidi’s nephew Dieter Seib at the age of 14. Dieter went to high school in Arlington and graduated from Wakefield Senior High. After high school Dieter went back to Germany, married, and had three daughters. Dieter Manousakis preceded Heidi in death and passed in 2019.

Heidi often volunteered for the American Red Cross but was mainly a proud Hausfrau (house wife). Taking care of her husband, son, and home. In fact, she was still cleaning and washing dishes at 102. Her other loves were dogs and cats and flowers and plants. When stationed back in Germany in the early 1950’s she and George added Rex, a retired German Shephard military service dog, to their family. He was really their first child. Heidi loved flowers and house plants and had over 40 varieties between the yard and house. In fact, she had hanging plants in every room except the bathroom. She valued all living things and advocated for peace, environmental beauty, and natural health.

Left to cherish her memory are her granddaughters Roxana Manousakis (Bobby), Eva-Tina Manousakis, Carina Manousakis; niece Dorothea Leonhardt, nephew Franz-Georg Seib (Heidi), nephew Johnny Mangus; grandniece Kerstin Bocks (Markus); grandnephew Holger Seib (Stefanie); great grandnephews Lukas Bocks, Laurin Bocks (Marsha), Nicklas Seib; and great grandniece Lia Seib. The care team of Walter Milton, Christine O’Connor, Don and Nira White, Gregg Foster, Scott Lamp, Alissa Slater, Kerry Fico, and Randy and Beth Freeza, her great neighbors and dear friends at Arlington Adult Day Program.
