

Albert Vincent Dougherty, Jr., fondly known as "Al” from Arlington, Virginia, passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 82, leaving a void in our family that no one else can fill. Al was born January, 27,1944 in Washington DC. He was the beloved son of Albert V. Dougherty, Sr., and Helen A. Dougherty. He was a proud father, a man of deep faith, and an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church.
From his early days, he was surrounded by a loving family. He grew up in Washington, DC, and attended a caring Parochial School before being accepted into DeMatha Catholic High School, an all-boys, four-year private catholic school in Hyattsville, MD, where he graduated in 1962.
Al earned his master plumber license and dedicated over fifty years to serving UA Plumbers Local 5 in Washington, D.C. His final professional position was ensuring security protocols were followed as a Contractor Escort at the FBI Quantico Complex, in Quantico Virginia.
Al spent forty years residing at The Astoria Condominium, a place he proudly called home. He valued his friends, neighbors, and the community around him.
He is survived by his children, William “Brett” (Jodi) and Albert Vincent III “Vince” (Michele) Dougherty, along with his only grandchild, Nicholette “Nikki” (Patrick) Goldsmith, and their three children—his great-grandchildren, Presley, Liam, and Irelynn Goldsmith. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Dougherty and her children, his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rita Marie Dougherty. Lastly, he is survived by his cherished cat and loyal companion, Jessie, who is now in the loving care of Brett and Jodi Dougherty.
A Catholic Mass will be held Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 5300 North 10th Street Arlington, Virginia 22205. A reception will follow Mass at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA 22203.
