OBITUARY
Alexander Rafael Gil

IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our son, Alexander Gil. Alexander was a bright light to many in the way he looked out for others, his infectious smile, hardy laugh, his passion for athletics, and his friends and family. Growing up, he was always a friendly and active individual, and sports became an early part of his life. Whether he was swimming in the pool, roaming center field or playing soccer with a force that was unmatchable, he was a fierce competitor, but win or lose, it was about the love of the sport, his teammates and the friendships and bonds that were created.
As he grew into the young man we all loved so much, Alexander’s passion for making a positive change in his community and the world around him became his focus. He loved his volunteer work with AFAC, and his empathy for others became a focus for him. After a successful high school career at Yorktown, he was off to the College of William & Mary, eyes wide open and interested in pursuing a degree in International Relations.
Our hearts are extremely heavy, as we’ve lost a shining star who wanted to be a positive force for change in the world and who was a genuinely beautiful young man.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that if you’d like to make a positive change in Alexander’s name, please make a donation to one of the two organizations linked below. As many of you know, Alexander himself was diagnosed with epilepsy. Moreover, now more than ever, we need to support our children during a time of grief, so we also encourage individuals to support an organization that focuses on mental wellness during difficult times.
A gathering to honor Alexander and share stories of laughter and joy will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Murphy Funeral home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA, 22203, from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Please be prepared to share fun stories.
Following this event, the Knights of Columbus have generously offered the main house to continue his celebration of life. As many of you know, he grew up there in many ways, at camps, swim team, fun times, and as a camp counselor. All are welcome. 5115 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22207.
