Ann Lefferts Guthridge

A 25-year cancer survivor, Ann lost her second battle with cancer on June 15, 2012 at home surrounded by family she loved. Born January 2, 1947 a native Arlingtonian, Ann is survived by her mother Janet P. Lefferts of Arlington, husband of 41 years Clay G. Guthridge, sister Nancy L. Thaete of Haymarket, and children Samuel Miles Guthridge of Chestertown, MD and Sarah Guthridge Szymanowski of Arlington. After graduating from Washington-Lee High School, Ann attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC and majored in English. She spent most of her professional career as an editor for the federal government. Ann devoted her life to her family, creativity, and volunteerism. Her volunteer efforts benefited the Washington-Lee Alumni Association, Meals on Wheels, and other local organizations. A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 21 at 10 AM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5533 16th St. N., Arlington, VA 22205. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, or an organization of personal choice.
