Beverly Grizzard, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024. Born on August 2, 1934, she grew up in Seville Ohio, where she cherished the close-knit community and formed lifelong friendships.
Her two sons, David and Matthew and four grandchildren, Elliot, Georganna, Grace and Sarah brought her immense joy. Holidays were especially cherished times filled with laughter and, of course, her famous lemon pie. There might have been a disagreement with Matthew one Thanksgiving over the final touches on the turkey when he finished cooking it with a blow torch! but everyone knew they could always count on Beverly's delicious contribution to bring a smile to the table
In 1956, adventure called! Beverly embarked on a new chapter, moving to Washington D.C. after receiving a job offer for a position in the travel and tourism industry. She thrived in the city life while residing in a boarding house, where she again found a wonderful community and built enduring friendships.
Beverly spent her fulfilling career as an executive secretary in the travel and tourism industry. This role allowed her to combine her organizational skills with a passion for travel. Her career brought a touch of serendipity, too! Working for a travel agency, the company often received complimentary trips to Europe and other exciting destinations. Since everyone in the company couldn't go, these trips were awarded by lottery, and Beverly's luck shone brightly! She regularly won and was able to experience the world firsthand through these adventures.
Beverly married in 1963. Together, they built a beautiful life for 40 years until Jeff’s passing in 2003. They lived in a small apartment in Arlington where they met ‘Grandma Sally’ – a neighbor who would become a lifelong friend.
It was in 1968 that she and her family moved into their first house. There, she met another cherished neighbor and lifelong friend in Linda Hoffman. Together, they shared countless memories and laughter.
She had a keen eye for design and a love of creating a beautiful and inviting home. She enjoyed finding fine furniture and decorative pieces, and her collection of porcelain figurines added a touch of elegance to her surroundings. In addition to her love for aesthetics, she was also dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She believed in the importance of regular exercise and made it a part of her routine.
Beverly was a devoted member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, where she found great fellowship. She was actively involved in the church community, serving on the Altar Guild and the XYZ Club. Her dedication and enthusiasm were instrumental in coordinating, organizing, and contributing to the church's annual Fall Festival, a beloved event that fostered community spirit and fundraising.
Beverly will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association in her memory as both she and Jeff were taken by COPD.
A visitation for Beverly will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1132 N Ivanhoe St, Arlington, VA 22205 with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 N Roosevelt St, Falls Church, VA 22044.
