Camille Grimes Brewster September 23, 1941-July 24, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Camille Grimes Brewster announce her passing on July 24, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents; Frank Hume Grimes Jr. and Mary Louise Colliflower and her husband of 37 years; Thomas Edward Brewster. Beloved mother of Kathleen (Joe) Dunn and Sharon (Keith) Bretzfield; loving Gigi of Brady Thomas and Joseph Ryan Dunn and Tinsley Carter and Tenley Piper Bretzfield. She leaves behind her siblings, Mary Cecilia “Cee Cee” Van Hecke, Cristina Grimes Piotrowski and Frank Grimes III and many other relatives and friends. Camille graduated from The Academy of the Holy Cross, Class of 1959, and attended St. Mary’s College in Indiana. She spent most of her life devoted to her daughters, volunteering at their elementary school, and later becoming a secretary at Magruder High School in Rockville, MD. Her greatest joy was seeing both her daughters become mothers and enjoying every minute with her four grandchildren. Camille never missed sending a greeting card to friends and family, just letting them know she was thinking about them. Despite suffering a stroke in 1997, she continued to live her life with a positive attitude. We admired her strength and great sense of humor. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 2-4pm & 5-7pm at Murphy Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22204. A Mass and Christian burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Camille Brewster to the Stroke Comeback Center, 145 Park Street, SE Vienna, VA 22180 or in memory of Camille Brewster, The Academy of the Holy Cross, 4920 Strathmore Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895.

I first met Camille when my brother, Tom, brought her home to Plymouth. We were roommates at 37 Samoset Street and would talk and giggle til midnight. How I admired that she said the rosary every morning! My dad said she was a keeper as she loved eating lobster and crabs. Tom always had a twinkle in his eye when he held Camille's hand. They were married in 1975 and had
two beautiful daughters. Camille was a dedicated wife and mother and always found time to send cards to all her relatives for every occasion. She fought a huge battle in 1997 when she recovered from a stroke. Tom became her coach and angel until he was snatched from us too quickly in 2013. I loved visiting them in Rockville and Florida and Tom loved that I would take over the cooking. Before dinner we would hold hands and pray the Our Father together. I felt we were so united even though we lived miles apart. I know you are holding hands now and our boy, Lefty, is sitting on your lap. I am so depressed that I can't be there to celebrate Camille's beautiful life. I love you, Tom and Camille, and you are forever in my heart. Rest in peace my brother and sister!🙏💕

Kathleen, Sharon and families: Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Camille was such a power of example of living life on life’s terms. She accomplished so much in the 23 years since her stroke. She never missed sending a card for a holiday, birthday, or special occasion. The cards always reminded us of what a strong and thoughtful person Camille was. In her memory we are sending a donation to Stroke Comeback Center.
Love, Paul and Kare Brewster

Almost 48 years ago, Camille threw herself a 30th birthday party. She insisted that I meet Cameron DeFoe. And I did, and we married 14 months later. AND, I introduced her to Tom Brewster, and they married in the spring of 1972. What wonderful memories we share, especially as our 2 sons and their 2 daughters grew up.
Rest in peace.

We met Camille & Tom when our son, Joseph started dating Kathleen. They eventually had a beautiful Washingtonian Wedding in 2004!
Both Camille & Tom were welcoming & they always had a loving smile & were great friends to all they met!!
Camille has been an inspiration to all that knew her! We got many of the cards she would send out!!
She will be missed by everyone but especially Kathleen, Joseph, Sharon, Keith & her 4 Loving Grands!
We all know Tom welcomed Camille in Heaven with his open arms!!
Sorry for you loss!

Camille was our Sister-in-Law; but she was much more then that to us.
She was the love of Tom's life and his best friend. They brought two beautiful girls(Kathleen & Sharon) into the world and combined with their love to bring them up to be wonderful wives, Moms, and successful people in their chosen careers.
Camille's love, pride, and dedication to their well being from day one to her last breath was obvious to anyone who knew her.
She overcame a near death experience in1997; but with courage and family support she was able to see her daughters marry and the birth of her 4 grandchildren. Tom and Camille also loved their 2 Son-in-Laws(Joe &Keith) like they were their sons,
Camille has now joined Tom and has left all of us with great memories of courage, respect, and love that she demonstrated every day.
To Kathleen, Sharon, and family our love and deepest sympathy
