

Of Arlington, Virginia passed away July 1, 2016 at home. Dennis was born July 7, 1939 and was a native Washingtonian. He attended Holy Trinity School, Gonzaga High School and the Catholic University of America, where he received both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. He continued his studies and received an additional Master’s Public Administration from the University of Southern California Washington Center for Public Affairs, Washington, DC and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at California Western University. Dennis’s working career was at the National Communications Systems (NCS) division of the Federal Government where he enjoyed many years of research, development and education in the fields of telecommunications technology, electromagnetic pulse and development of Int’l/National/Federal Standards relating to National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications. Dennis retired as the Chief of Technology and Standards Division of the NCS. At an early age, Dennis was fascinated by ham radio technology and participated for many years as a Fellow of the Radio Club of America, receiving their Sarnoff Award in 2007. Additionally, he served as Honorary VP of the American Radio Relay League. As he garnered new knowledge and honors throughout his life, Dennis became an active Fellow of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) and the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) receiving The Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award in 1999. He served on numerous committees over the years, travelled internationally representing the organizations, and enjoyed every moment of it. He authored and co-authored numerous books as well as technical publications on fax technology while securing 6 United States Patents. Dennis served our country as a Member of the United States Air Force Reserves for 27 years, retiring as Lt. Col. Dennis is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rita. He was a loving father to Dennis and Brian (Wendy Wyndelts), brother to Michael Bodson, and to Mary Bodson Fultz (Stephen Fultz), uncle to Geoffrey Morris. He loved football and for many years he officiated high school games in Northern Virginia. With all the awards and recognition, he loved his family first and foremost. Visitation hours will be 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm Thursday July 07, 2016 at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA. There will be a 10:00am Funeral Mass, Friday July 08, 2016, at Cathedral of St. Thomas More, 3901 Cathedral Lane, Arlington VA. Interment will be held at Columbia Gardens, following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Charles Dennis Bodson’s name to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
