Charles "Chuck" William Dent

July 23, 1958March 13, 2020

Charles “Chuck” William Dent Sr., a resident of Crystal City Arlington, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 13, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was 61 years old. The son of Russell Paul Dent and Thelma Nadine Dye, Chuck was born on July 23, 1958, in Harrison County, West Virginia. He attended the schools in Harrison County and graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV. He went on to attend some classes at WVU.

Chuck was preceded in death by his two brothers, Russell Dent and Ronnie Dent.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his soulmate and best friend, wife Debbie Dent of Arlington, Virginia; his sister, Carroll Rawlings of Alexandria, Virginia; his children, Charles (C.W) William Dent Jr., Christopher (and wife Mandy) Dent, Sarah Dent, and Samantha Dent of Clarksburg, West Virginia; Melissa (and husband Brent) Thompson of Morganton, North Carolina; Ronnie Reed and his son, Cory Reed of Elkins, West Virginia; Jessica Pifer of Arlington, Virginia; Danny (and wife Amber) Reed of Bridgeport, West Virginia; four other grandchildren, Alyssa, Hayden, Sean and Tommy Dent of Bridgeport, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews, and so many friends whose lives he touched.

Chuck worked for Gates Hudson as the maintenance supervisor at Crystal Plaza, a job he took great pride in, with a team and work-family that meant so much to him.

Chuck loved to fish and go camping and was so looking forward to retiring to the mountains in West Virginia. He was an avid Washington Nationals fan and attended games as often as he could, including watching his Nats win the World Series. He enjoyed giving politicians a piece of his mind on Twitter, watching scary movies and shows, cheering on WVU football, and putting all other men to shame when it came to how he treated his wife.

Due to the current state of affairs surrounding COVID-19, a memorial and celebration of life will now be held at a later date.

So sorry to hear about Chuck. We connected some years ago on Facebook. I met Chuck while I was a student at Central Jr HS in Clarksburg WV. Even then, he was a genuine young man who liked sports. Be at peace my friend.

I too live at Crystal Plaza and I knew Chuck pretty well. I'd often see him and we'd always talk about our Washington Nationals. I had season tickets to the Nats and when I couldn't go I'd share my seats with Chuck. I'd often look for Chuck the next day to see how the game went. Chuck was a great guy and will be missed by many. Chuck was always upbeat and a pleasure to talk to. I'll miss you, my old friend.

My condolences to the Dent family. I knew Chuck through his work at Crystal Plaza. He was a gentleman at every moment and someone whom I was always glad to see and in whom I could trust. I share his family’s sorrow and will miss him.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Chuck for 10 years working with him off and on at Crystal Plaza. The best way that I can describe Chuck is to say that he was a man of character and everyone can say they were honored to know him.

Debbie, as you and I were talking the other day, you mentioned that he treated you as his "princess". Life is about memories and you have have a wonderland of precious memories to cherish a lifetime and then some.

I remember him telling me that I would drive him crazy with all the detailed work orders that I would give him. He said I was so picky about things I would find in my inspections of turnovers. Not to mention this was on a weekly basis. We would laugh about it.

Crystal Plaza will not be the same without him. We all respected him as a friend, co-worker and an amazing leader of his maintenance team.

I am attaching a picture of Chuck from our most recent pool party. I love this picture.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about the loss of my good friend Chuck. His passing is a terrible tragedy for all of us who knew him. I know Chuck had a great family and that you loved him very much as he did you. He always spoke in the most glowing terms of how much you his wife and family meant to him. Chuck was an inspiration to me. I admired all the wonderful qualities that made him the special person he was. He had intelligence, wit, charm and most of all a caring heart that made him a great friend. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I will always be grateful that I had nearly 10 yrs to get to know him and call him my buddy. I will cherish his memory for years to come. Chuck was a great guy and I know our lives will never be the same without him. I never heard an ill word spoken of Chuck. He was kind, compassionate, and a true gentlemen. Sadly there are few people like that in the world Today. Again I'd like to extend my sympathy to your entire family and let you know how much we all share your pain at this very sad time. Deb Thanks for sharing Chuck with me. I feel truly Blessed............your friend Victor Smith
