Clement (Clem) Floyd Munno, age 77, of Arlington, Virginia died peacefully on November 19, 2019 surrounded by family and caregivers. Clem was born in 1942 to the late John and Mary Munno in New Castle, PA.

Clem is survived by his son Clem Munno Jr. (Nicole), daughter Beth Munno (Michael Stevens), stepson Kenny Beach (Sandy), stepdaughter Debbie Bowman (Mike); his former wife and the mother of his children Kathryn Riso; his brother Frank Munno (Helen), sister Angela Augustine, sister Viola DeVinney (Tad); grandchildren Kenesa Haffer (Jimmy), Heidi Thompson (Eli), Kelly Homan (George), Megan Munno, Peyton Munno; and great grandchildren Wyatt Haffer, Alli Haffer, Asher Thompson, Bowyn Homan, Ava Thompson, Noelle Homan and Evan Homan.

Clem was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in active duty from 1962 to 1965. He then served as a reservist until 1968 when he was honorably discharged. Clem had 45 years’ experience in government contracting. He retired from federal service in 1996 after 28 years working at the Department of Defense, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the Metropolitan Police Department, Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration. Clem supported and advised at the highest levels in three Cabinet Agencies – the Department of Commerce, the USDA and the Department of Transportation. He briefed Congressional Committee Staffers and Members of Congress on specific large contracts. Clem also worked 17 years in private industry supporting government programs. In retirement, with no political experience and needing a near miracle to win, Clem ran for a seat in North Carolina’s Second Congressional District in 2012, just wanting his ideas for improving the nation to be heard.

In his spare time, Clem became an avid table tennis player, competing in tournaments both locally and across the country. Clem took up coin collecting in his retirement, spending hours studying coins to identify collectibles. Clem loved Elvis Presley music and knew the words to almost every song. His eyes lit up every time he heard an Elvis song and he would immediately begin singing to the delight of all those around him. Clem also took pride in coaching Clem Jr’s football and baseball teams over the years.

Clem attended New Castle Senior High School in New Castle, PA. He worked his way through college at night attending Southeastern University for his Bachelor’s Degree and Strayer University for his Master’s Degree, both in Business Administration.

A special thank you to Arden Courts of Annandale for their loving care and support during his final months. A memorial service will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203, on Monday, December 9th at 11 a.m. with a reception for family and friends immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
