Dale E. Matthews

Dale Eric Matthews passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012 in Fairfax, Virginia with his sister by his side. Dale was born on September 22, 1958 in Arlington, Virginia to his parents, Jim and Peggy Matthews. Dale graduated from Yorktown High School in 1976 and from Tidewater Community College in 1989. Dale worked for 11 years as a Respiratory Therapist with the majority of that time spent working at Virginia Hospital Center (formerly Arlington Hospital).

The last 10 years of Dale’s life were spent caring for his Mother. He also helped take care of his nieces and nephew when they were infants. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he loved his nieces and nephew as if they were his own.

Dale was a gentle soul who enjoyed life. Most comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans, he was mechanically inclined and found pleasure in restoring classic cars and repairing antique clocks and timepieces.

Dale was first diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2003 and he spent the past 9 years bravely battling this cancer. His battle ended on Friday, January 20, 2012.

Dale is survived by his Mother, Peggy Matthews, his Sister, Donna Anderson, her Husband Michael, and their 3children, Bailey, Katelyn and Jacob.
