Donald Walker Nicholson, "Donny", 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Arlington Hospital Center after a battle with cancer
Donny was born in Arlington on May 6, 1944. He graduated from Bishop O'Connell High School where he played football. After graduation he joined the Army and served 2 tours in Vietnam as an Army Staff Sergeant from 1969-1973. He continued to reside in Arlington for the duration of his life.
Donny worked as a bartender spending majority of his career at The Sign of the Whale in Washington, D.C. where he was revered as "Mr. Weekend". He was an avid golfer, lover of "the oldies" and was a kind and generous man that had an unsurpassable sense of humor. He was also extremely artistic and one of his hobbies was painting.
He is preceded in death by his parents, "Jack" and Mabel Nicholson.
Donny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lisa; daughter Kimberley Kimball, and her husband Peter, of Leesburg, VA; son Trevor Nicholson, and his wife Christiana, of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter Jordan Nicholson of Jamestown, NY; brother Paul Nicholson, and wife Phyllis, of Wyoming, DE; brother Robert Nicholson, and wife Gloria. He also has 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 20 at The Cathedral of St. Thomas More at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Columbia Garden Cemetery. Celebration of life will be held at Crystal City Sports Pub; 529 23rd St. South, Arlington.
