Douglas Kim Lutz

Kim Lutz, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in McLean, Virginia on August 12, 2026, due to Parkinson's Disease. He was 85 years old.

Kim was born and grew up in Fenton, Michigan. He graduated from Fenton High School, the University of Michigan, and the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. As an undergraduate, he also attended Mexico City College. He did further graduate study at the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile.

Kim joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served as an operations officer in locations in Latin America, Europe, and the United States. After retiring from the Agency, he served in the Department of State, where he travelled to embassies around the world to conduct intelligence oversight for Office of the Inspector General. The then became a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton before finally retiring to homes in McLean, Virginia and Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Kim truly believed the adage that "If you love what you're doing, you'll never work a day in your life." Whether he was traveling for business, volunteering as an English language tutor, tending to his roses or coaching his kids' Little League teams, he brought passion and enthusiasm to everything he did. He skied in Austria and Argentina, sailed the Caribbean and the Chesapeake Bay, and fished from Alaska to Patagonia. He loved fine automobiles and drove as many as he could - even borrowed a friend's Maserati to drive on the Nürburgring course. He usually travelled with a telescoping fishing rod, and would wet a line if he could find a body of water and a free 15 minutes.

Kim spent a lot of one-on-on time with his children and nieces and nephews, helping them to appreciate how complex yet wonderful the world was, and how important it was to be open to different cultures, new ideas and big challenges. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his intellectual curiosity and, above all, his love of life.
