

Betty Ann Armstrong, beloved wife of deceased Darrell Armstrong, sister of Madeleine Moorcones, Pat Richards, and deceased brother Michael Rabil, and aunt of 5 nieces and nephews passed away peacefully in Arlington, VA on September 7, 2016. Betty Ann dedicated her life to helping children through her work with Arlington Public Schools. She began her career as a classroom teacher, and enjoyed hearing from former students throughout her life. She continued her work on behalf of children as Language Arts Supervisor and finally as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. Upon retiring Betty Ann established a fund for professional development for administrators, teachers and parents. Along with her numerous works and accolades, she was honored as one of Arlington’s “Persons of Vision” for her leadership in improving the status of women and children. Betty Ann grew up in Weldon, North Carolina with her mother and father, Michael and Roselyn Rabil, sisters and brother. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and received a Master’s Degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Betty Ann had a trademark style that featured a whimsical collection of foxes, an ever present southern drawl and a ready laugh. She will be missed by many and remembered by her family, friends and neighbors with love.
