My Dad, Doug Anderson was, first and foremost, a gentleman in the truest sense of the word: a gentle man.  His parents believed that everyone should be treated with respect; every job is worthwhile so you should always do your best; louder does not mean you are right; listening is more important than talking; love your family.  Simple tenets.
Doug Anderson was a Naval Aviator, a mathematician, a civil engineer; all occupations requiring intense attention to detail. He was also a tinkerer; he knew the details were important, but there might also be a different path yielding the same result.  Never discount your options and keep an open mind.  You just might reach your goal from another side. 
Doug was the mender of broken toys and broken hearts. He was generous with his time, his knowledge and wisdom, his money and his jokes and puns. If needed, he was also generous with a lesson in right & wrong.  His word was his bond; if you make a promise, you keep it.
A girl's first love is her father.  From him, she learns how a man treats a woman.  How he treats people in the day-to-day world, business & personal, affects how she expects to be treated; how he reacts to difficult circumstances affects how she navigates life's rough spots; how he overcomes obstacles to reach a goal gives her the tools to do the same.  All those life lessons essential to a well-lived life can be found in a father/daughter relationship.
Some father/daughter relationships are empty and the daughter never finds her footing.  I was lucky. My Dad wasn't perfect, but he was the perfect father.  He loved me and I knew it from the moment I was born and spending 4 weeks in the hospital where he visited every day.  I knew it on Thursday, August 28, when I kissed him good-bye at 5:30am and he asked when I would be back.  I knew it Friday, August 29, when I talked with him on the phone and told him I loved him and heard him say, “I love you, I love you”.   61 years, 8 months, 20 days.  I knew every single day.

Noting that you were "one" of my several, favorite uncles, you will leave a hugh hole in a lot of lives, but that is O K. God blessed you for many years and it is good to know, the kind of life you lived was a very admirable one. Thanks for being my uncle.  David Patterson-- Hoxie, Ks.

You deserve your place in heaven and you have worked hard to achieve it.  You have set example for others and are loved by so many.  We will all miss you. I can't remember a time when Uncle Doug was not in my life. He was a wonderful role model, and gave all of the nieces an example of what a husband should be, and how he should treat his wife, and all women.  Altho he lived half-way across the country, he was always just a phone call away. I will always miss him, like I do his brothers. What wonderful men Mama Lizzie and Granddad Burleigh raised!!

I have known Uncle Doug all of my life.  He was my Mother's brother and he came from an awesome Mother and Father that raised a family of 6 siblings that loved and respected each other and everyone that they met.  Uncle Doug and Aunt Lorene were showing and teaching and mentoring for many years when they didn't even know what they were doing, or maybe they did. Love you all.............

Our thoughts and prayers are out to all that loved him. He and Freddie stopped by on their way to Fla. to visit. Always a pleasure. We will miss him. John Anderson and family.

Doug and Loraine were already in my parents lives when I came along.  There was never a time that they were not around.  I remember so many adventures and smiles and floor pallets and memories that will keep me sustained.  Doug was never without a big smile and a big hug and always felt as good to hug as my own father.  So glad Loraine is getting her long overdue hug now.

Knowing Doug and Loraine was one of the greatest gifts in my life.  The friendship spanned over a period of 58 years and traveled from Japan to Texas to California to DC but never ceased in all of our years.  These memories keep me smiling and I will treasure them forever.

So sorry about Uncle Doug. I call him that because I am Christine Anderson sister, Carole. I most always saw them when Mark and Christine did. He was a neat guy and looked so much like Drew.

Missing the lunches at the Vietnamese places already. Rest in Peace.
