
Ernestine Boykin Banks, aged 89, of Arlington, VA, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, after a brief illness. Ernestine was born February 1927 in Camden, SC, to Cornelius Boykin and Rosa McLeod Boykin. Upon the death of her mother, as a young girl Ernestine moved to Virginia to live with her uncle George McLeod. She attended college in New York and married Harvey Washington Banks, Ph.D. Ernestine enjoyed a long career as a statistician for the USPS in Washington, DC. Preceded in death by sisters Anita and Mary, and brothers Moses and Cornelius, her husband in 1979, and son Dwann Banks in 1991. Survived by sister Rosa Hudgins, children Harvey W Banks III, Deborah Lange, and Darryle Banks, and their spouses William and Edith, daughter-in-law Sharon Adams and her daughter Marilyn. Surviving grandchildren Alexander, Jesse, Jordan and Caitlin. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Harvey Washington Banks Scholarship in Astronomy, in care of the National Society of Black Physicists, 3033 Wilson Boulevard Suite 700, Arlington, VA 22201.
