Frances Dorothea Colangelo

1924-2019

Frances Colangelo, age 95, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Arleigh Burke Pavilion in McLean, Virginia. She was surrounded by her three loving children and caregiver Nigist Worku.

Frances was born in New York City on January 11, 1924. She married her beloved husband Felix (Phil) Colangelo in 1947 and they lived in Long Island, NY (Jericho) where they raised their family. Frances is survived by her son Philip, his wife Sandy, their three sons, Matt, Thomas and Sam; her daughter Emily; her daughter Alison and her husband Chris Herrick. Frances relocated to her McLean condominium in 2002 to be nearer to her children and their families.

She is predeceased by her husband and her brothers, Vincent and Frank. Her brother Joseph passed away May 27, 2019.

Ever proud of being a native New Yorker as well as a Capricorn, Frances demonstrated all of the best traits of both, with her love and devotion to her family, intelligence, integrity, ingenuity, empathy and honesty. She was outspoken and candid but benefited those around her with her guidance, insight, and compassion. She especially loved music, theater, art, comedy, nature and reveled in all things Italian. We will miss her profound wisdom, joie de vivre and endless love.
