My thoughts and prayers go out to Gerri's friends and family. I've worked with Gerri off and on over many years with the Defense Department. We disagreed over several policies and processes during our meetings and e-mails, going back and forth and back and forth with points and counterpoints. And as soon as we were done with that discussion, he would ask how my family was doing with the greatest of concern and caring. Gerri had passion, empathy, and an intelligence that invited you to become involved and invested. I'm a richer person because of his influence in my life and I will treasure our discussions. Godspeed, sir. You will be missed.

Gherri has a quiet, pleasant personality. He was always the most helpful.  He had a way to see an issues from multiple views and bring a group of people with different views to a consensus view to move forward. From the time Gherri and worked together at DISA SNAP office to now, I have valued his friendship.

I first met Gerri in 1996 when we worked for Erol's Internet in Springfield. He was my go-to person with any IT related questions. He was always so helpful, polite, and professional. When he asked my dear friend out for a date, I knew they would last, and they did. Carol and Gerri were in love, and I was their maid of honor. 
Gerri was a wonderful man, a great husband, and a father. He loved his family so deeply.   While we're mourning the loss of our friend; others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil.
Carol and Erica, hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your friends and family for strength, and always remember how much you are loved.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, 
But always near,
So loved, so missed,
So very dear.
Gerri will be greatly missed, but his warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered forever.

Gerri was a sweet humble man whom I had the pleasure of knowing for the last eight years.
As his next door neighbor, we would often run into each other. Sometimes, we would chat, other times we would just wave hello yet other times he would busy himself as if he didn’t even see me. You see, whenever I walked out of the house to quickly get the mail in the mornings, barefoot, unbrushed hair and teeth, he would pretend as if he didn’t see me.
He was a kind man. But he went out of his way to deliver kindness from the receiver’s point of view. I was so grateful for that, Gerri. Your genuine goodness carries on in the beautiful daughter you and Carol have raised. You knew that we recently moved out of the neighborhood, you stopped by to say goodbye and wish us well. But what you probably didn’t know is that from all of the youngsters we knew in the area, only Erika stopped by to also say goodbye, wish us well and ask our children to keep in touch or holler if they ever needed her. Erika is a kind, compassionate, polite person, just like you. And so you will forever live on in her.
My deepest condolences to the beautiful Carol who we watched worry and care tirelessly for you, to the amazing Erika, a lovingly decent young lady and to the rest of the Bartell family and friends.

I just started working with Gerri again with the PPSM team. He was a wonderful, funny, thoughtful, caring, compassionate, loving man that I could sometimes anger. He would give you the shirt off his back. I loved hearing his stories, many included Carol and Erika. My heart breaks with yours at this terrible loss.

I remember since the first grade my Tito Gerri always treated me like I was his own . He always made me laugh and smile on my bad days even if we haven’t seen each other for a while he never failed to brighten my day. May his soul rest in perfect peace , We love you.
