Glen Allen Jaeckel was born at home in Marshfield, WI on November 13, 1932, to Emil and Ida (Altman) Jaeckel and left this earth on May 30, 2026. He grew up in Marshfield attending Marshfield schools where he participated in the high school band.
Upon graduation from Marshfield High he was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served two years as a member of the Dixie Division Band stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. After his service in the Army, he attended UW Stevens Point for one year before transferring to Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. Glen graduated with a degree in Accounting and soon began his 30+ year public service career with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue before eventually retiring in 1995 as Assistant to the Director of the Audit Bureau.
In 1967 he married Sandra (Conour) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Madison. They had two sons, Scott and Jeff, of whom he was immensely proud and five grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of kindness and generosity. Over the years, Glen coached little league baseball, attended more hockey games than he could count, and eight years of band concerts. In more recent years, he once again proudly cheered from the sidelines as he watched his grandchildren enjoy many sports and musical activities.
Glen was a lifelong and avid musician. After retirement, he played in several different musical organizations in the Madison area including New Horizons, VFW, and Swinging 7. He played all varieties of saxophone, oboe, and clarinet, and never stopped learning piano. He also volunteered for nearly 30 years with VITA and AARP income tax programs at the Rick Dilly Center and Middleton Senior Center. Glen loved to fish and treasured many fishing trips to Canada over the years, and rarely missed a Green Bay Packers game.
Glen was predeceased by his parents, brothers James, Wayne, Harold, Neil, and Lynn and sisters Agnes and Nancy as well as his in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived and missed terribly by his wife of 59 years Sandra, sons Scott (Olga) and Jeff (Meredith), grandchildren Sam, Nina, Max, Maya, and Alexei as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future. Glen’s family requests in lieu of flowers that donations in his memory be directed to the UW-Madison Arboretum, %Erica Lee, 1207 Seminole Highway, Madison, WI 53711.
