Gloria Ann Hedrick-Johnson, age 96, of Arlington, VA passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, of natural causes. Born in Washington, DC on December 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Otto Thomas Johnson & Charlotte Johnson. Gloria grew up in Washington, DC, however, she enjoyed her summer months in NC with family, especially her cousins! The summer months were spent barefoot, which Gloria was not accustomed to doing, so she was jokingly referred to her as the “city girl”! Gloria’s employment included working during the World War II era in a Government typing pool where she met, and married, her first husband, Sherwood Hedrick. They resided in a home, built by Sherwood’s parents, on 1st Street in Glencarlyn. Unfortunately, their marriage faltered, leaving Gloria to raise their four children, as well as the occasional house guest, alone. Gloria eventually took a position in the Arlington Commonwealth Attorney’s office retiring in the mid 1990’s. Gloria was also blessed to meet and enjoy many happy years with her second husband, John Johnson, of Falls Church, VA. Following their marriage, Gloria resided at Sunrise at Bluemont Park until her passing. Gloria was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret (Jimi) Barnett of Stanardsville, VA, her brother, Colonel Jack Johnson, USAF Ret, as well as her sons, Charles Lane and Wayne Hedrick. She held a special place in her heart for her sons as she never fully recovered from her grief of losing them. Survivors include her son, Brian Mace Hedrick, of Southern Shores, NC, as well as her daughters, Gigi Ann Jones of Tyler, TX and Sandra Lee Hartsough of Pomona Park, FL. She was also blessed with two grandchildren - Jason Wayne Hedrick of Summerville, SC and Heather Lane Maya of Lakewood, WA, as well as four great grandchildren - Anna and Bryce of Summerville, SC and Stephanie and Gage of Charleston, WV. Gloria is remembered by her children for her dedication in providing a loving home with wonderful memories of birthday and holiday celebrations. Her dedication meant that she worked several jobs to provide for us, which she deserves recognition and the utmost gratitude! Thank you, Muz! Rest in peace!
