Helen Elizabeth Caplinger

Helen Caplinger was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Helen passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2022 at the age of 81 after a brief battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Royce; daughter and son-in-law, Lara and John Larsen; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Scott and Emily.

A Long Island native, Helen completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the Oneonta State Teachers College. After teaching for two years, she married Royce Caplinger, a Naval officer, and thus began their near 60-year adventure, traveling the country and the world. Wherever the Navy took them, Helen quickly made the new house a home and found time to volunteer at church and teach. Together they had one child, Lara, and three grandchildren. Helen was a talented seamstress, making beautiful clothes for herself and her daughter. Her legacy will be her passion for fitness. She was a devoted swimmer at Yorktown high school pool, swimming 3 miles a week, plus attending aerobic workouts and daily pushups.

Her caring spirit, humor and friendship will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Army Navy Country Club at 11:30am on July 16.
