Helen Marie Lettola Rebull, 83, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 12, 2025, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. While her decline was unexpected, her passing was peaceful, and she was cared for and surrounded by loved ones.
Helen was born on September 4, 1941, in Springfield, Illinois, as the eldest child to the late Matti and Martha (Jospaitis) Lettola. After graduating from high school in Westfield, New Jersey, Helen obtained a bachelors of science in nursing from Hartwick College in 1963 and began a career as a registered nurse at consecutively George Washington University Hospital, Marymount University, and Congressional Schools of Virginia, the last as a nationally certified school nurse (NCSN).
Throughout her life, Helen provided care and advised others on caregiving as a nurse, mother, teacher, gardener, and community volunteer. She was wed to Peter Mario Rebull on October 11, 1969, and attended to him through his prolonged battle with dementia, to which he succumbed in 2014. A devoted mother and member of the community, Helen gave her time and energy freely to the Arlington County Parent Teachers Association at Taylor Elementary, Williamsburg Middle, and Yorktown High Schools; the Arlington Outdoor Lab; the Girl Scouts of America; and the Virginia Association of School Nurses. She published articles on a broad range of public health topics affecting youth, including food allergies and sun exposure, and even in retirement supported caregivers for those afflicted with dementia. She was a vibrant member of the music ministry and a communicant at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia, where she volunteered for over forty years.
She is survived by her daughters, Luisa M. (David M.), Margaret N. (Ann M.), and Anne E. Rebull, her grandchildren, Andrew J. Cole and Graciela A. and Fiona M. Rebull, and her sister, Nancy L. Lettola. She will be interred in National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA, next to her husband, Peter M. Rebull, who preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen will be held Friday, February 21, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22207. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 22042.
