OBITUARY

Hilda Rita Rodrigues

July 21, 1932October 2, 2021

Mrs. Hilda Rita Rodrigues of Arlington, VA, left us for the pearly gates of heaven on October 2nd, 2021 surrounded by her close family and friends at the Virginia Hospital Center. While she is no longer physically with us, her loving spirit will always be around us.

At age 89, she is survived by her daughter Janine Rodrigues (spouse Ron Hager), her son Irving Rodrigues and her three grandchildren Sydney (daughter of Janine), Mackenzie (daughter of Janine), and Cameron (son of Irving).

Hilda was born in Hyderabad, India, on 21-July-1932, to Mrs. Lavinia Pereira and Mr. Theophilus Pereira. She married Mr. Colin Rodrigues on 3-Jan-1954, and they started their married life in Karachi, Pakistan. Colin and Hilda immigrated to the US from Pakistan in August 1974 with their two children Irving and Janine, and settled in Arlington, VA, to live their American dream. Being a career-focused independent person, she landed her dream job at the World Bank, where she had a very successful career till retirement. Colin and Hilda always offered an open door, a home away from home, lots of laughs, and countless great meals to everyone they interacted with. Hilda was a woman with multiple talents who enjoyed playing the piano, singing and also produced some very memorable drawings and pictures in both charcoal and color. Everyone who knew her recognized that within that petite stature lived a giant in character, unfailingly kind, patient, empathetic, generous, courageous, and uplifted everyone around her with her contagious smile and always positive attitude.

Eternal rest grant unto Hilda, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

My Darling Aunty Hilda,

Your life is a blessing
Your memory a treasure
You are loved beyond words
And missed beyond measure

Always loving and giving
You showed me the way
You’ve left a legacy
That I’ll  follow night and day

As child I thought you a celebrity
You moved with such grace & style
Your fairy godmother’s tinkling laugh
Could always make me smile

I love the way you sing
It brought joy to my heart,
And your hugs meant so much to me
I feel them now even though we’re apart

A woman of so much strength
No matter how tough life got
From health challenges to other things
You just smiled and conquered the lot

I cherished your visits
Yummy food & chats on the phone
Nothing will ever be the same
Now that you have gone

 I Love you Aunty Hilda,
More than words can say
And it truly breaks my heart
To say goodbye today

It’s so sad that God chose to call you
Your leaving has caused such pain
But as you’ve always been an angel
Our loss is heaven’s gain

So now as you watch us
From heaven above
May you always stay blessed
And know you are so so loved

Always and Forever
Your ever loving niece
Renita

I have very fond memories of Hilda and Colin always being warm and gracious hosts whenever a group of us young ruffians showed up on their doorstep in the '70s. She was a lovely woman. May she rest in peace.

Aunty Hilda, was my god mother.

She embraced us from the time we came to the US from India in 2001. She opened her heart and house to us from day one and we spent almost every Thanksgiving since then in Arlington, VA. She made sure we knew that we had family here to help fill the void of leaving everything to start a new life in a new country.

You will be sorely missed, but know that your guiding light will always be with us.

Lots of Love
Vince, Vani, Nathan and Trisha.

Here are some priceless memories over the years.

We basked in the  bright glow of her beauty - a beauty of body mind and soul
Now  memories of her sweet smile, gentle loving  nature and strength of character warm our hearts every day.
Your ever loving sister,
Myrtle
