Hildegarde R. Allebaugh died peacefully on Nov. 9, 2018 near her home in Lake Barcroft, Falls Church, Virginia. She was 107 years old. Until she had a stroke 3 months ago, she had an outstanding quality of life and was truly amazing.
She was born in Warsaw, Virginia on March 16, 1911 to William and Effie Rose Rock. Her early life was shaped by her participation at Beulah Baptist Church in Warsaw, Virginia. She attended Warsaw High School and upon graduation moved to Charlottesville, Virginia to work for the Virginia Electric and Power Company. She met her husband, Robert O. Allebaugh in Charlottesville at the Virginia Electric Power Company where they both worked.
Bob, her husband and Hildegarde moved to Alexandria when they were transferred by the Virginia Electric Power Company. Hildegarde and Bod lived in Arlington, Virginia. They had their only child, a daughter, Linda Gay Allebaugh Krause, at that location late in life.
In 1952, Bob and Hildegarde brought the first lot in Lake Barcroft, which had been bought by a private firm from the Alexandria Water Works. They built a home and raised their daughter in Lake Barcroft. Hildegarde lived until her death in this family home.
Bob and Hildegarde enjoyed travel, bridge, and golf together. Hildegarde’s hobbies were gardening, knitting, and golf. She has been an active member of Annandale Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, sister Viola, her brother William, her sister Mary Evelyn and sister Virginia.
She is survived by her only child, Linda Gay Allebaugh Krause and her son-in-law, L. William Krause of Los Altos Hills, CA, niece Faye Fager and nephew Bill Bryant.
Arrangements are being made by the Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia. Her burial will be at Beulah Baptist Church in Warsaw, Virginia in the family plot.
