Nov. 1, 1929 - Jan. 29, 2018 Jack D. Hanson died Jan. 29, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. Jack was born Nov. 1, 1929 in Ammon, ID, the seventh child of Edward S. Hanson and Katie Jane Nowlin Hanson. Jack left home at 14 to become a cowboy on the Idaho side of the Grand Teton mountains. When he turned 18, he joined the US Air Force, where he became first a Military Policeman and then joined the Office of Special Investigation as a Special Investigator, specializing in arresting military personnel smuggling drugs. During the Vietnam war, he volunteered to go to Southeast Asia where he served in Thailand and other countries. He retired from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant in 1968 and went to college, completing his BA in Social Work from Sacramento State University in June 1971. He then went to work for the Navy at Mare Island Naval Station. When he had a stroke in December 1982 that led to his retirement, he was chief of criminal investigations at Mare Island. Jack married Mary Lou Laughin of Guilford, MO in July 1952, having met her while she was working the previous summer as a waitress in a restaurant in Colorado Springs, where he was serving at Ent Air Force Base. They had three sons, Jaydee, Keith and Ronald. In 2000, Jack and Mary Lou moved from Vacaville, to Arlington, VA to be close to Jaydee and his family. Mary Lou died in 2004. Jack is survived by sons, Jaydee (Jane), and Keith, who live in Arlington, VA; son, Ronald (Debbie), Mill Creek, WA; grandchildren, Lars (Meridith) Hanson of Arlington, Hannah Hanson, Atlanta (fiance Cole Brunson), and Erin (Justin) Beck, Richmond, VA, great granddaughters, Ingrid Hanson, Arlington, and Zoe Beck, Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his two sisters, Helen Wear of San Bernardino, CA, Wilma Larson of Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Ed Larson, and sisters-in-law, Sharon, Macil, and Shirley Laughlin. Jack has many nieces and nephews living around the US and abroad. Jack is buried at Arlington N'tl Cemetary
