
James Joseph Furey passed away on December 11, 2012 at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. He was born on February 17, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Marie Bowen Furey; two daughters, Theresa M. Buechler-Furey (Dr. Donna K. Buechler-Furey); Dr. Kathleen E.G. Martin (Dr. Edward D. Martin) and two grandsons, Ensign James E. Martin, U.S.N. and William Randolph Martin.
Msgt. Furey was a highly decorated World War II and Korean war hero earning two Purple Heats, three Bronze stars with Valor, seven European Theater campaign ribbons and many more. The Republic of France awarded him their highest honor, The Legion of Merit. He retired from the Army with the 3rd Infantry, Ft. Myer, the Old Guard and began a full career as a Federal Police Officer with the U.S. Capitol Police Force.
