COL (Ret) USMC James Joseph Harp
September 11, 1932 – July 29, 2021

James Joseph Harp died July 29 at home surrounded by his family. He was one of twelve children, born in Philadelphia, PA. He is predeceased by his sons, James, Jr. and Michael, and survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley (Brown) Harp and his children, Patrick (Patty), Dennis (Shawn, deceased), Maureen, Eileen and Colleen (Jim) Brooks, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He joined the USMC in 1951 as a Private and retired as a Colonel in 1979. He was an extraordinary man who left a mark on so many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, August 9, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Homes, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. A Funeral Mass will occur Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 10 AM at The Cathedral of St. Thomas More, 3901 Cathedral Ln, Arlington, VA 22203. Burial will follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
