

He leaves behind many cherished family members, including his three children: Robin (Matt) Kruithoff, Lucas (Jean) Lamkin, and Heath (Caroline) Lamkin; their mother and his former wife of 26 years, Jeanne Lamkin; his seven grandchildren (Isabella, Adriana, Dominick, Jackson, Davis, Nathan, and Wallace); beloved siblings (Cathy, Jeanie, Bob, Jerry, Sissy, and Clay); as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Leanna, parents Robert and Velma, uncle Jerry, and other beloved friends and family members.
Jim was a proud Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army and accumulated many awards over his 25 years of service, including a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal. He was an avid sports fan, specifically of his Purdue Boilermakers, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Nationals, and took great pride in his much-loved pugs. He was happiest when surrounded by family and deeply enjoyed any and all time spent with his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at The Creek Christian Church (6430 S Franklin Rd Indianapolis, IN 46259) on Saturday, November 18th with a brief service beginning at 3 p.m. A visitation will follow the service. A private inurnment will take place at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family is requesting memorials be made to the Veterans Club in Beatrice, Nebraska. The Vets Club is home to the American Legion Post #27 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1077. Jim's brother, Jerry, a Marine and 46-year continuous member, is in his fourth year as Commander of the American Legion.
