Jeanne Tompkins Page passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 20th, 2021 at age 101 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Arlington, VA. She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Peggy) Page, grandchildren Alan Wish and Cynthia Wish, and great grandchildren Ari, Vanessa, and Luke Wish. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Patricia Van Abs, and her husband Harry Robert Page.
Born Margaret Jean Tompkins on August 2, 1919 in Berrien County Michigan, Jeanne grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, and on the family farm. Jeanne attended Michigan State College where she majored in music, and where she met Harry Robert (Bob) Page. After graduation, she taught music and English in Michigan public schools. Jeanne and Bob were married on April 1, 1945. Bob was a member of the Air Force and the family moved many times to wherever Colonel Page was stationed, (Kansas, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Wiesbaden, Germany) before settling in Arlington, Virginia.
Passionate about music, Jeanne played the piano, sang, and maintained a household filled with games and dancing. There was never a deck of cards far from her reach. She loved to travel and was very invested in her friends and extended family. As an only child, she was especially close to her many first cousins. She was delighted to become a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Jeanne attended Rock Spring Congregational Church where she volunteered in several capacities, most recently on the organ committee. She inherited the family farms in Michigan and Kansas, managing their business operations until she was no longer able.
A very well-mannered woman, Jeanne also had a mischievous sense of humor and was quick with a clever joke. Her house was always open to friends, family, and visitors; and Jeanne was like a second mother to many of her daughters' friends.
The family asks that any donations in her name be made to the American Heart Association.
