Joe Alston Blount, Jr., age 65, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA.
Mr. Blount was born October 11, 1953 in Hohenwald, TN to the late Joe and Mary Blount. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. In that time, he and his family served at the NSA at Fort Meade, MD, Göppingen, Germany with the Big Red One, Fort Bragg, NC, Southern California as an Army recruiter, Seoul, South Korea twice, Panama City, Panama, the Pentagon and finally at Medical Hold Company at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He retired in 1997.
After his military retirement, he served as the Coordinator for Military and Veteran Student Services at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
He married Rebecca (Becky) Ann McAdams on December 1, 1973 in Memphis, TN. They enjoyed 45 years and 14 moves in their married life together. He is survived by his wife and two sons, David Michael and Kevin Scott, all of Arlington, VA. He also leaves behind his two brothers, Stevean Robbin Blount (Belinda) of Hernando, MS, Danny Robert Blount (Mary) of Southaven, MS and his sister, Rhonda Lynn Brewer (Gunter) of Haddonfield, NJ.
Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA has been entrusted with his services. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25 from 5 PM until 8 PM. His Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at Murphy Funeral Home at 11 AM. Reverend Michael Youngblood of Westover Baptist Church will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or the Honor Flight Network.
Interment will take place with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
