John served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War as a Radioman 2nd Class earning 3 Bronze Stars. He later joined the Arlington American Legion Post 139 serving in many positions during his continuous 60 year membership. John was also a member of the John Lyon VFW Post 3150. He retired Verizon in 1987. John then served as a staff member and volunteer at the St. Charles Borromeo School for 27 years.
John was the loving father of Donna M. Scarborough and Kathleen L. Luongo, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or the St. Charles Borromeo School, 3304 Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201.
