John was a graduate of the University of Akron (BA); graduate of Michigan State University (MA); a Bronze Star recipient; and a Vietnam veteran with military Commendation and Meritorious Service Medals. Upon retirement from the USAF, John made his interest in the restoration and collecting of early American pocket watches and British long case clocks as his future vocation. He and Pat incorporated in Virginia as Time & Strike, Inc. They enjoyed years as clock dealers in antique shows along the east cost of the US.
John is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Patricia Snead of McLean, VA, along with their son, John "Jay" R. Snead II and his wife, Rebecca of Portland, Oregon.
