

Julia Anna McKone, age 100, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away, peacefully, during the late hours of April 2, 2018, surrounded by her family. Julia was born in Scranton, PA on February 6, 1918 to Stanley and Anna (Blumkus) Lukenavich. Julia had one older brother Bill, wife Dorothy, and one older sister Della, husband Leo. They were a very close family. Julia enjoyed school. After successfully excelling in high school, Julia graduated. After not too long she passed a civil service exam, and moved to Washington, DC. In the early 1940’s, Julia began her career as a Federal Government Girl. In 1943, she met her future husband, M. Richard McKone, whom she dated and became happily married on October 15, 1945. In 1947, Julia put her government job aside and became a full time mother, to raise her only child, James. In the mid 1960’s, Julia returned to work as a legal secretary for APRA, American Petroleum Refinery Association, where she remained with until moving into retirement. Julia and Richard were members and devout participants at St Thomas More Church, the Knights of Columbus, and also with the Franciscan 3rd Order of St Francis. Both Julia and Richard were long time members in the Maine State Society. In retirement, Julia enjoyed lessoning and playing the Hammond Organ. Julia was also an accomplished seamstress, making most all of her own suits and clothes. Julia and Richard also traveled together sightseeing the world. Julia became widowed in 2009. Julia is survived by her son James and his wife Phyllis, three grandchildren, Joshua, Kimberly, and James, nieces and nephews, Leona, Jean, and Bobby and their husbands, wives, and many children. There are also nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, plus one on the way. A viewing for Julia will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arl. Va. on Wednesday, April 18th from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at The Cathedral of Saint Thomas More on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 10:00AM, followed by a procession to Fairfax Memorial Park for burial. Flower and or condolences are welcomed and can be sent care of the Murphy’s Funeral Home.
