Les Henderson passed away in his home in Alexandria Tuesday February 28 at the age of 66. He is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Leslie Henderson and Marion Fremont, and his brother Kenneth. He is survived by his spouse Lis, children Les and Johanna, and his sisters Kari, Trisha and Jamie.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Les lived in Louisiana, California, London, and Northern Virginia. After initially pursuing a dramatic arts degree, Les earned his doctorate in chemistry at LSU, allowing him to pursue his scientific curiosity and work as a scientist, teacher, and most recently as a researcher at the US Patent Office.
Les loved music and the dramatic arts, frequenting the Birchmere and Wolf Trap. He played the clarinet and the guitar and enjoyed expanding his musical knowledge. Les was an avid reader who collected educational material to increase his scientific understanding.
