Louise Hobbs Knott Brannan, beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend, passed away on November 18, 2014, in Arlington, Virginia. She was 90 years old. Louise grew up in Mountainburg, Arkansas, where she and her twin brother Louie were the youngest of the eight children of John and Emma Hobbs. She graduated from the University of Arkansas and lived in Yazoo City, MS for several years after marrying John C. Knott of Vaughn, MS, in 1955 where John opened his grocery store. Louise and Jon were happily married for over 40 years until his death in 1988. A second wonderful marriage to William B. Brannan ended with his death in 2005. She then moved to Arlington, VA, in 2009 to be close to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
Louise's many volunteer activities reflected her love of her family, her church, and her friends. She was a teacher for several years after college and then later taught at Canton Academy Elementary School for over 25 years. Long after her retirement, she spoke often of her love for teaching and for her students.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Knott Todd, her son-in-law Doug, and her grandson John, all of Arlington, VA; her twin brother Louie Hobbs of Van Buren, Arkansas; her stepson Leigh Brannan of Canton, MS and stepdaughter Ellen Brannan of Tylertown and many nieces and nephews. She is remembered by family and friends as beautiful, charming, and hardworking - a gifted teacher and a loving friend and family member.
