Passed away suddenly on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was the dearly beloved husband of Lee Olson, revered father of Luther, Jr., Douglas, Phillip and Deborah, grandfather of Jason and Nathan, and is also survived by six of his nine siblings - Dale, Fern, Lee, Phillip, Juanita, and Shirley. He was just short of 94 years old.
A WW II veteran earning EAME theater ribbon with two brone stars, he was a kind and honorable person who loved helping others. He tutored immigrant children and adults so that they could successfully compete in American society, earning a "7 Who Care" award. He rescued, nurtured and loved many "thrown away" pets. He was a good, good neighbor. He loved music, played the clarinet and was an accomplished International Ballroom dancer who loved sharing his dance skills. He raised the most astonishing vegetables and fruit which he patiently and devotedly coaxed from his soil. He loved sharing his produce with friends and canned the surplus. He enjoyed his challenging career as an FDA scientist and then enjoyed his retirement just as much.
He is so sorely missed by all who knew and admired him. His family will receive his friends on Wednesday, July 24, 6-9pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers please make a donation, in his name, to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington or other animal welfare group, if you wish.
